A Little Bit Diluted

Both Peu and Pavrita birthed without issue, once again for some odd...odd and annoying reason, on the same day...at the same time. Given that nothing can go smoothly at the stables, something had to give...specially with such smooth births.

The little strange brindle colt was slightly smaller than his half sister, but was much livelier, bouncing around like a spring in the small stall, his tiny hooves flailing as he climbed all over anyone present. Extremely affectionate, he licked and rubbed and generally loved anyone that could be reached. The odds of his colours coming out as they did were astronomical, but...somehow...somehow...it came about. We were, of course, a little bit saddened that the little colt wasn't ours to keep, but if Peu can do it again, then we'd be pleased anyways.

Pavrita will be retired from breeding after this birth, most likely to be exercised back into shape for show, or Harness.

Like before, minutes after giving birth, the big black mare turned on the foal, trying to smash it against the walls of the stall. Jeremy, being ridiculously brave, rushed in, shouldering the mare aside like a linebacker. The next four hours were spent trying to persuade Pav to accept the baby, to no avail. The mare steadfastly tried to kill the filly every single time it came near her, including kicking Michelle in the stomach and sending her flying into the boards of the stall.

Needless to say, the night wasn't going well, particularly with the owner of the farm in the nearest emergency room.

As the night went on, we noticed, for the first time, Peu trying desperately to shove her head between the bars between the stalls. Every time the little filly came near her, she'd start frantically licking her...until Jeremy, who had not had a large black horse kick him in the stomach, put the filly in with Pue and Xanthias. Peu immediately rushed over, licklicklicking frantically at the baby, finally shoving the baby under her stomach and almost forcing her to nurse.

Well...crisis averted....somewhat.
